The Husband's Secret

A #1 New York Times Best Seller, The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty, the author of Big Little Lies, is a modern day take on the story of Pandora and her box. It details the lives of three women who are impacted by the murder of a teen girl that happened nearly thirty years ago. The end of the novel includes an ironic twist as author Moriarty shows how tiny decisions can change the scope of dozens of lives. The novel's three stories are intertwined in many ways. While timing plays a significant role in the characters' lives, it is the guilt that is carried within each that determines their ultimate fate.

This took a loonnngggg time to finish because it's not really a page turner! It's alright but would I rush to read others by this author NO! It just wasn't thrilling at all. Most of what did happen happens almost at the end of the book. Would I recommend it no! It was mediocre at best.

I’ll be honest-at first I wasn’t that interested in it, and really only one or two of the perspectives are actually interesting so by the end of the book, I was wanting to skip entire sections just to get to different ones. Ending was pretty shocking though!

Quotes 🗨️ : “You get nothing for nothing!” “This was how it could be done. This was how you lived with a terrible secret. You just did it. You pretended everything was fine.” “A son is a son until he takes him a wife; a daughter is a daughter for all of her life.” “None of us ever know all the possible courses our lives could have and maybe should have taken. It’s probably just as well. Some secrets are meant to stay secret forever. Just ask Pandora.” Liked ✅ - Very enticing, easy, quick read - Loved the parallels in the chapters between characters - Pulled me in quickly and kept me holding on - Thrilling - Perspective on making different choices Didn't Like ❌ - Weight discrimination - Basic ending, nothing special More in depth review at patreon.com/salinaandtanya

Definitely a fun read. The ending was too unlikely.

I really enjoy Liane Moriarty. I thought I was immune to the gravitational pull of chick-lit, but I couldn't resist her.

I'll be honest - her books are quite similar in the characters, the settings, and the plots. But they always work for me the way a calorie laden treat does. I know I shouldn't be doing it (I mean, CHICK-LIT...what will people think?), but they are delicious and worth every greedy bite.

The appeal - for me - is how she really understands women (and relationships and families). I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Liane Moriarty gets it. I have not read one of her books without thinking, "Huh. I thought I was the only one who thought that/felt that/said that."

It seemed to her everyone had too much self-protective pride to truly strip down to their souls in front of their long-term partners. It was easier to pretend there was nothing more to know, to fall into an easygoing companionship. It was almost embarrassing to be truly intimate with your spouse; how could you watch someone floss one minute, and the next minute share your deepest passion or most ridiculous, trite little fears? It was almost easier to talk about that sort of thing before you'd shared a bathroom and a bank account and argued over the packing of the dishwasher.

The Husband's Secret had everything her books always have, but I just felt like it was a little...less. There were twists, but they were less shocking to me. There were great characters, but they were less interesting to me. This was still a great read, a great page-turner, and a great way to get my mind off of my hectic schedule.

I'll keep reading these books for as long as she's rolling them out.
