Monday's Not Coming

"Jackson's characters and their heart-wrenching story linger long after the final page, urging readers to advocate for those who are disenfranchised and forgotten by society and the system." (Publishers Weekly, "An Anti-Racist Children's and YA Reading List")

From the critically acclaimed author of Allegedly, Tiffany D. Jackson, comes a gripping novel about the mystery of one teenage girl's disappearance and the traumatic effects of the truth.

Monday Charles is missing, and only Claudia seems to notice. Claudia and Monday have always been inseparable--more sisters than friends. So when Monday doesn't turn up for the first day of school, Claudia's worried.

When she doesn't show for the second day, or second week, Claudia knows that something is wrong. Monday wouldn't just leave her to endure tests and bullies alone. Not after last year's rumors and not with her grades on the line. Now Claudia needs her best--and only--friend more than ever. But Monday's mother refuses to give Claudia a straight answer, and Monday's sister April is even less help.

As Claudia digs deeper into her friend's disappearance, she discovers that no one seems to remember the last time they saw Monday. How can a teenage girl just vanish without anyone noticing that she's gone?

I read the whole book in one day if that tells you anything about the book. It was a powerful story about how one dyslexic girl loses her best friend, and how the systems in her life (community, school, and police/government) don’t seem to care that this girl’s best friend is missing. The tragedy of slipping through the cracks brings a voice to all of the missing children just like this story, reported or unreported, and is sure to be a passionate and action-inspiring read.

So heartbreaking. I wanted to fight for Claudia to be heard so bad!!! It makes me sad how this story could be based on true events with the world we live in. My heart breaks for the Charles kids. The before and after was a little confusing for me to keep up with. Things just weren't adding because she had to have known what happened if it's "after". But when everything came out it all made sense.

It took me a little longer to get into this book. At first, it felt very YA, but once I was finished, I don’t know how it was rated YA! Such a good read! A few triggers and disturbing parts. The book goes back and forth with “before” and “after” and that was a little confusing and hard to keep track of, but now I want to go back and reread! Really very moving!
