Orange Is the New Black meets Walter Dean Myer's Monster in this gritty, twisty, and haunting debut by Tiffany D. Jackson about a girl convicted of murder seeking the truth while surviving life in a group home.

Mary B. Addison killed a baby.

Allegedly. She didn't say much in that first interview with detectives, and the media filled in the only blanks that mattered: a white baby had died while under the care of a churchgoing black woman and her nine-year-old daughter. The public convicted Mary and the jury made it official. But did she do it?

There wasn't a point to setting the record straight before, but now she's got Ted--and their unborn child--to think about. When the state threatens to take her baby, Mary's fate now lies in the hands of the one person she distrusts the most: her Momma. No one knows the real Momma. But does anyone know the real Mary?

OH. MY. GOD! My jaw is literally on the floor!

Cos wtf did I just read? Like. . What? How?

Y’all I was so mad for Mary, wanting to throw this book across the room. I felt all her emotions .. sad, hurt, pity .. to only feel soooooooo manipulated now.

It’s been like 10 minutes since I’ve finished & I’m still sitting in the SAME SPOT, JAW STILL ON THE FLOOR. I never saw that coming .. will I ever recuperate from this? Probably. . . Never.

Really captivating. Will definitely have you on the edge of your seat at some moments, feeling emotional or angry at other moments. Definitely recommend this read if you’re into psychological thrillers.

The ending really pissed me off and I, QUICKLY, went from loving this book to feeling like my time was wasted. Like, wtf?! I get wanting a twist, but to make it so 98% of the book is BS is BS. (Can I curse? 😅) It was a page turner, though. I was really enjoying it up until the very end. It was all a lie..... Maybe it's because I feel played? But, I guess, that was the point... Good read overall. Just pissed at how I got played. I was really rooting for her. I may have to read it again to see if there was something I missed. It also felt unfinished.

↘️ Spoilers, Rants, Reviews ⤵️ 📚 📚 📚 ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾 4/5 First of all : Wow Tiffany, you fooled the hell out of me. In this medium paced somewhat thriller, the main character Mary Beth easily drew sympathy from me from the beginning. Hearing about multiple forms of neglect and abuse she endured from her mother really had me on her side from the start. Even more so when she introduced the girls she lived with whom was just as broken if not more and basically took their frustrations about the world out on each other. I would literally scream at the book when ever her mother came into a scene , "Girl tell on that crazy woman!" ... she seemed self serving and narcissistic... but boy I didn't know the half. The apple doesn't fall far from the psycho tree, it literally takes one to know one, just ask Sarah, she was literally drawn to Tiffany, maybe even obsessed thinking back on it, because she googled her , studied her ... and ultimately tried to harm her for trying to leave ... Mary is literally a diabolical spinster, had me fooled, I had to reread the line "I gave her the pills" over and over. She really played the innocent role rather well. I'm sure her mother is proud. I believe the character development was fair, definitely left me wondering and wanting to know more there's a bunch of cliffhangers here. Her ( Tiffany's ) writing style was quite interesting , I will be reading more from this author I enjoyed it.

If I could rate this book infinity I most certainly would! This was read was my first introduction to this author and she is hands down my favorite author. I am in utter shock and woke up several days after reading this book, still shook. All the women within this book were completely unhinged. This is a must read along with all of Tiffany D Jacksons other books!
