UnWholly (2) (Unwind Dystology)

Connor, Lev, and Risa deal with the fallout of their rebellion in this riveting second book in the suspenseful, New York Times bestselling Unwind Dystology series by Neal Shusterman. Thanks to Connor, Lev, and Risa--and their high-profile revolt at Happy Jack Harvest Camp--people can no longer turn a blind eye to unwinding. Ridding society of troublesome teens while simultaneously providing much-needed organs for transplant might be convenient, but its morality has finally been brought into question. But unwinding is a big business, and there are powerful political and corporate interests that want to see it not only continue, but also expand to the unwinding of prisoners and the impoverished. And the minds behind unwinding have already begun pushing its boundaries. Cam is the first "rewound," a futuristic Frankenstein's monster who does not technically exist and is made entirely out of unwinds' body parts. He struggles with his identity and the question of whether he has a soul. And when the actions of a sadistic bounty hunter inextricably bind Cam's fate with the those of Connor, Risa, and Lev, Cam comes to question humanity itself.

I read this book over two months ago.
Neal Shusterman wrote this book five years after [b:Unwind|764347|Unwind (Unwind, #1)|Neal Shusterman|https:d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1297677706s/764347.jpg|750423].
We'll call it even.
Fortunately, I took notes after reading this because I knew I wouldn't get to the review right away. Unfortunately, I had no idea that not getting to it right away would mean getting to it two months later and having only a vague recollection of what the hell I am even talking about in my notes. But I'll do my best. And I'll make it short.
One of my complaints with [b:Unwind|764347|Unwind (Unwind, #1)|Neal Shusterman|https:d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1297677706s/764347.jpg|750423] was that I didn't really give a rat's patootie about the characters.

They were just...there. I was delighted to find that I started to care about these same characters I didn't care about in the first book. This book has more of a character focus than a setting, world building focus. Lev, Connor, and Risa finally became unforgettable to me. Add to that list newly introduced Miracolina and Cam. Miracolina is a tithe with a 'tude. Cam is the pieced together slightly creepy slightly cute character that graces the cover of this book. I can't wait to see where his story goes.
This book is fast paced and is only predictable where Shusterman wants it to be. STOP LURING ME, DUDE!
I hold Shusterman to a pretty high standard because his writing is so superb. Bruiser was the only book of his I gave five stars to I am such a tough critic on his books. They are all fantastic whether I give them four or five. They just need that extra "something." This one has some of that, which is why I am putting it at 4.5.
