I’ve always been a fan of First Lady, Michelle Obama. Her poise, kindness, beauty .. BUT, I was never interested in reading a self-help book & I started this book for a book club I joined and I’m sooooooo glad I did.

I listed to the audiobook because it was narrated by Michelle Obama herself & that within itself was amazing. Hearing her raw emotions as she tells each story .. I loved it.

“The message was familiar: I don’t see you as being entitled to what you have. You stand out. You don’t matter.”

Going into chapter 5, I did not want to stop listening. So inspiring. So motivational. So relatable. Listening to how each “tool” makes everything just a little bit easier.

I don’t know if I could ever give one one of Michelle’s books less than 5 stars. I listened to the audiobook version and I genuinely think I would listen to anything that she narrates, she does an amazing job.

If you love Michelle Obama you will love this book. If you don’t love Michelle Obama, yo absolutely will after reading this book. The amount of poise and kindness she shows again and again is astounding.

Starting this audiobook felt like coming home: I throughly enjoyed getting to know Michelle Obama through her reading her first book, Becoming, and now here she is again with another cracker full of wisdom, insight and positivity. The Light We Carry challenges its reader - in the nicest possible way - to explore ways of living our lives more positively and supports this philosophy with long, inspirational anecdotes from Michelle Obama’s own life. The audiobook is read by Michelle herself which is an additional treat. I don’t tend to read self-help books much but Michelle’s advice is so straight forward and essential that pretty much anyone can take something away from this book. Additionally, Michelle Obama is so funny, honest and likable that it easy to be motivated by this book-length pep talk. The most enjoyable part for me was hearing all the stories from her life since leaving the White House, and some extra tales from her life as First Lady that were not touched on in Becoming. This includes a few of their experiences during the COVID pandemic and a several amusing stores about her daughters growing up and leaving home. The chapter on relationships, however, was very thought-provoking and contains a lot of truths. It’s made me take a good deep look at the friendships and spontaneous social actions in my own life, and how I approach them. Becoming was a hard act to follow, but this is an admirable follow-up and definitely worth a read if you are keen to learn more about Michelle Obama and the way she approaches life.
