The Hunger Games

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

My expectations weren't too high for this book but I was blown away! there was (of course) action, tianted with romance, while being put into the worst situations. I loved peeta in this book and even though I think she'll end up with gale I'd like to see her and peeta as a real couple not faked so they could live (I haven't read the other 2 books yet so don't ruin it!)
For months, I had friends and family members telling me that I really needed to read The Hunger Games. I finally relented, and I am glad I did.
Honestly, it took me a bit to really get into the story. The concept was so foreign to me, and I kept thinking that the games themselves were a bit like extreme Survivor (which I detest)-Survivor on steroids, and in a way, I guess they were. But once I discovered Peeta's secret, I was hooked, and I had to see how things would turn out.
Katniss is NOT my favorite heroine. She is young, flawed and seemingly heartless at times as she maneuvers around in the games. But she starts to grow on you if you let her...
