"It's your memory now. It's not mine to experience any longer. I gave it away."
In a world where people don't freely make any decisions, ask questions, or challenge authority, feelings and memories are held by only one. Young Jonas has been chosen to be trained as a Receiver of Memories. His mentor, The Giver, shows him the power and peril of feeling, and the weight of it on life.
This gave me light Fahrenheit 451 vibes with sprinkles of Handmaid's Tale.
I read that when I was in elementary school so long ago but I still can’t forget this book it’s so interesting omgg
This was assigned in 7th grade to me and it was a very nice story!
The was a required reading in sixth grade and I read it again when I was older. It’s an interesting take on a utopia disguised dystopian (it’s a dystopian) society. My only issue is the book ends on a cliff hanger that isn’t resolved until like the fourth book. I’ve yet to read the rest of the series but they’re definitely on my TBR.
A classic. Very interesting concept for a story and it was executed perfectly.
