This book starts with a bang right out the gate. So much happens all at once and I couldn’t put the book down!
Then the middle came, and there was a lot of world building and Inner Poppy monologues and smut and more smut, and while I loved seeing Atlantia and Poppy growing into her eventual role as queen, I’ll admit it was a bit repetitive. I still enjoyed it because it all shows how Poppy grows and thinks and becomes the Queen of Flesh and Fire and in my opinion, that’s a large part of what these books are about.
And we were rewarded with a fantastic, high paced, ending that left me shaken at the end. I will be anxiously awaiting book 4. I feel a lot of things that were setup in this book will come to fruition in the next book (the Unseen, the prophecy, etc).
My only complaint and why I’m rating it 4.5 instead of 5 is that, after a while, all the smut got really repetitive and boring and i was sick of it interrupting the story. I mean, I love the passion, but EVERY single time they even look at each other, it’s pointed out that there’s “indecent” arousal happening. Even in the midst of really plot important discussions between characters, we get interrupted with paragraphs of how horny they are for each other. And it always seemed to be the same. I think the next book could tone that down and few would complain.
SPOILER: I’m actually excited to see part of the next book where Poppy and Cas are separated. I think that will be a refreshing change.

5 STARS- Ugh, this book! I cannot get over how amazing a writer Jennifer is. The world building she does and character depth created is amazing. The number one thing that I love about this book, and the series as a whole, is how I never know what to expect. Sometimes you have an idea, but there are so many twists and turns that make you sit on the edge, clinging to the next words for life. I just love the depth of this story and how intricately thought out this whole series is. How much Poppy and Cas have grown. I already can’t wait for the next book!
