"Good Omens . . . is something like what would have happened if Thomas Pynchon, Tom Robbins and Don DeLillo had collaborated. Lots of literary inventiveness in the plotting and chunks of very good writing and characterization. It's a wow. It would make one hell of a movie. Or a heavenly one. Take your pick."--Washington Post

According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch (the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655, before she exploded), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner.

So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, frogs are falling, tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon--both of whom have lived amongst Earth's mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle--are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture.

And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist . . .

The Writers Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s novel Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch is a humorous spoof of the end of the world based on the Christan Book of Revelation which is set around the year 1990 which was Good Omens was published. The setting is mainly in the country of England. An angel and demon whose human names are Aziraphale and Crowley respectively want to save Earth. They like Earth and Humans. Aziraphale and Crowley have known each other since the days of the Garden of Eden. They are not looking forward to spending eternity in either Heaven or Hell. Agnes Nutter was a witch who used her powers to heal people who were burned at the stake for fitting people's stereotype of what a witch would look like in 1600s England. Agnes’s prophecies seem very accurate for the end of the world that will take place around the year 1990. Agnes has a descendant named Anathema Device, who was trying to fulfill the role that Agnes gave her during the end times. The descendant of the witchfinder in Agnes’s village also plays a role in the story. Since the book was written in 1990, some of the jokes may be a little dated, but most of the humor still works very well. I enjoyed Neil Gaiman’s and Terry Pratchett’s novel, Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch. Can a book be bad and pointless, and still kind of cute? If so, this is that book. It's a cross between The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and The Screwtape Letters with a lot of British humor and snarkiness. It's not very three-dimensional though. The only somewhat developed characters were the demon Crowley, the angel Aziraphale, and the Adam and his friends. I enjoyed them. The other characters were extremely flat and pointless. The ending went on and on. I don't recommend the book but if they ever make a holiday movie of this, I'll definitely go. Haha.

I like this book more and more. With each read I catch more humour that I had missed. I like the comment of it's Monty Python meets the Apocalypse...because it truly is. I love the footnotes put in for us Americans so we can understand some of the British humour. If you are into Monty Python sens of Humour and love all things Neil Gaiman then this book is for you.

Loved it! Upon recommendation from a friend, I decided to give Neil Gaiman another chance, hoping a collaboration with Terry Pratchett would be a fun combination. I am so pleased that I did! This was such a fun read, taking me back to the humor of my youth - I smirked and snickered like a fourteen year-old boy throughout!
