Coraline

This edition of New York Times bestselling and Newbery Medal-winning author Neil Gaiman's modern classic, Coraline--also an Academy Award-nominated film--is enriched with a foreword from the author, a reader's guide, and more.

"Coraline discovered the door a little while after they moved into the house...."

When Coraline steps through a door to find another house strangely similar to her own (only better), things seem marvelous.

But there's another mother there, and another father, and they want her to stay and be their little girl. They want to change her and never let her go.

Coraline will have to fight with all her wit and courage if she is to save herself and return to her ordinary life.

Neil Gaiman's Coraline is a can't-miss classic that enthralls readers age 8 to 12 but also adults who enjoy a perfect smart spooky read.

I've wanted to read this book since I saw the movie when it was in theaters. I finally got around to it many years later.

I love when the authors themselves read for the recording of their audio book. It brings something more to the story. Like a different sort of immersion and you can feel like you are there listening right in the same room.

It seems some folks where not ok with the creepiness. I love the creepiness. And, it has a cat. Even Neil Gaiman realizes cats are the smart ones. I would love to know more about the Other Mothers life previous to her taking children and their souls. And how she obtained the power to make the worlds she does. Maybe one day we will find out as well as what happens to the key.

After having seen the film as a kid, reading Coraline felt like diving back into my childhood. I was a little sad to discover that Wybie only existed in the movie adaptation but the entire world felt like a magical distant memory. I would definitely recommend to anyone who has seen the film but not yet read the book, especially considering how quick of a read it is.

Reread this after twenty years. It's just as good. I'm holding off on my review out of respect for the HarperCollins union strike. If you're interested in purchasing some new books published by HC please do so out of the union's bookshop: https://bookshop.org/shop/hcpunion

My last read for the spring Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon. A perfect children's book that's exciting and fun for adults too. It's about bravery, loyalty, family, and love. A classic! Can't wait until James (and then Miranda) is old enough to read it and appreciate it.

Updated to explain the movie is pretty loyal to the book but somehow scarier and darker.
