Marissa and Matthew Bishop are The Golden Couple. We all know a set of high school sweethearts or childhood sweethearts, that are so cutesy and loving towards each other that it's simultaneously makes you jealous and nauseous.
Sometimes these relationships are beautiful, what we see is exactly what the relationship is, true love. Others, however, are like Marissa and Matthew's relationship.
Marissa and Matthew have known each other since childhood. They are successful, beautiful, and live a very charmed life. As you read you realize that more and more of their life is a facade. Their therapist even points out that they have an 'Instagram life', which in this day and age is very fitting. I feel like a lot of people do this; show us one face on social media, pretend that life is wonderful, but then are genuinely miserable.
Reading through I was not sure how I was going to rate this book, until I got to the end. I think this deserves my rating because, while I was not completely surprised by the ending, it was fast-paced and engaging. I cared about these characters enough that I was nervous at the end, I wanted to make sure that who I felt were 'the good guys' survived and lived happily ever after at the end.
Hey there, mystery lovers! I’ve just finished reading “The Golden Couple” by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, and boy, do I have some thoughts to share! This book had me on the edge of my seat, but it also left me with a sense of déjà vu.
But here’s the thing, my fellow bookworms: “The Golden Couple” doesn’t exactly reinvent the mystery wheel. We’ve seen these themes before—perfect façade, troubled marriage, deep dark secrets, you name it. It’s like a remix of familiar beats, and I was hoping for a fresher tune.
But hey, don’t let my gripes discourage you. “The Golden Couple” is still a solid choice for those who dig psychological thrillers. It’s got enough suspense to keep you hooked, and the exploration of marital relationships adds a nice layer of complexity. It’s like diving into a bag of your favorite snacks—satisfying, even if you’ve tasted something similar before.
I usually wrestle with ratings, but this was an easy 5 star. Every twist, every turn, every unexpected invisible thread connecting plots and characters was perfection.
