THE LONGING
Let me start this off by saying that if you read this book, I highly recommend also watching the movie after. This is the probably the only time I will recommend the movie adaptation of a book.
This story was so beautifully written, Aciman really put in his time for this one. This is not your average love story, not only is it about love, intimacy & attraction but also pain, heartbreak, & regret. It details a young boy (Elio) coming to terms with his sexual identity & discovering himself. Elio & Oliver fall into a hard and fast romance, & I promise you that nothing will prepare you for the ending. Now while this book broke my heart, it did not make me cry. BUT the movie, full on sobbing. I was not okay (just ask Savannah she has photo evidence). Reading the book & watching the movie back to back is really just an experience. I finished the book & watch the movie over a week ago & it still haunts me. Honestly I can barley but words together to write a better review because my brain just can’t function correctly when I think about it. Just try me when I say to read the book, then watch the movie. That’s all.
I have not watched the movie adaptation at the moment of this review - but I plan to watch it soon.
I got sunny, feel-good vibes, mixed with teenage angst and a great story of self-discovery. The romance was amazingly portrayed. I rooted for them to be together openly and I wished they lived in a world where they would have been free and transparent about their sexuality.
The last chapters were heartbreaking

This time I listened to it on Audible narrated by Armie Hammer, and it was even better.
