I want to give credit to Scott Snyder on this because Skinner Sweet was his brainchild and all, but I'm just too damn smitten with Mr. King to do anything but fangirl all over him and forget that Scott Snyder exists (mostly kidding?).

Ahem. Moving on...

This had everything I wanted and everything I never even knew I wanted in my comics. Great art - bright and detailed yet also scary and dark when necessary. A font that I can actually read. A story that kept me interested and one that I want to know even more about now. Vampires - not the pretty, sparkly kind but the unhinged jaws and scary claw hands kind. A whole lotta blood (vampires, remember?). A schmexy male lead who is cocky and arrogant and someone I'm not sure I should even be rooting for or not but HE LOVES CANDY AND SO DO I. A strong (but also sweet and vulnerable) female that I actually care about. Revenge. Betrayal. Or wait, should it be betrayal and then revenge? And dual time periods! We bounce between meeting Pearl Jones in the 1920s and the beginning of Skinner Sweet in the...

WILD WEST! YEE-HAW!

Except it's less of a yee-haw Wild West and more of a gritty, dangerous, bleak Wild West. With ugly pasty colored euro-vampires.

I rarely give five stars to the first in a comic series, but I'd just be a nitpicking jerk if I didn't for this one.
