A world at stake. A quest for the ultimate prize. Are you ready?

In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he's jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days.

When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune--and control of the OASIS itself.

Then Wade cracks the first clue. Suddenly he's beset by rivals who'll kill to take this prize. The race is on--and the only way to survive is to win.

I am simply stunned and at a loss for words... I say that, yet I'm still going to attempt to write a brief review. This book was, for lack of a better word, brilliant. Before I go any further in my review though, let me queue up RUSH 2112 real quick... Okay. Let's go!

Holy Schnikes guys! Seriously, this book is simply every gamer/pop-culture nerds dream! A completely immersive virtual reality that allows you to explore any fandom/game/world that you can imagine? Not to mention the added bonus of being able to rack up XP and build your avatar for any scenario possible. Sign me up with SG1 or with the crew of Serenity right now!

About the book though, the story follows Wade Watts as he and his friends (and everyone else on the planet) attempt to solve the greatest puzzle ever issued to man kind to unlock a dead man's wealth inside the virtual reality system known as OASIS. As the story progresses and the challenges present themselves, Wade and everyone else will have to rely on their 80s pop culture knowledge and 80s video game skills to help them overcome the difficulties they face.

From a crumbling dystopian reality, amazing 8-bit battles, to evil corporations, and through heart break and triumph, this book literally has everything that video game fans and 80 pop-culture buffs alike can enjoy. Highly recommended!

Two Enthusiastic thumbs way up!

I love this book. I love the story building the egg hunt. I enjoy the trials that the characters go through. If you love D&D, video games. It blends very well for the story. All the way from level 1 to level 99. I love it. I've read this book count less times, and have heard the audio book numerous times. Will Wheaten does a great job reading the story. Point is don't sleep on this book.

Loved this book. A million times better than the movie. The 80s references were absolute gold.
