I've had this on my kindle for a while and I am happy I finally got to read it. This book was so intense and sweet and so much more than what I expected.
Jane and Evan have been best friends for a year. The catch see- Evan is dead. After a traumatic melt down in school, Jane is labeled a freak and more or less, has no other friends besides Evan.. Connor has secrets of his own and it isn't long before Jane discovers how much they have in common and how much they need each other.
Jane is such a real and like-able MC. She doesn't trust easy, so it was easy to accept her reluctance when it came to Connor. Not to mention, his intrusive behavior and warnings about Evan. She just.. accepted being able to see Evan and went on. No thoughts to be a super detective and investigate why. Or over think all the reason she could see him. She just did. So yeah, being told your best friend has secrets and a reason for being there would be hard to swallow. She was an outcast and teased, and I feel like she handed all that remarkably well. The interactions between Jane and Evan were so sweet. You can care that they care about each other.
Connor, was the game changer. I initially didn't know what to think of him. Honestly, at first he was weird and creepy with his staring and intrusiveness. His hot and cold attitude became old pretty quick-- but once we learn about his story and why he is the way he is, you understand. It's traumatic as well and just heartbreaking. He's very protective over Jane but not in an I'm-going-to-control-you kind of way.
As sweet as Evan and Jane are, Connor and Jane were even better. Their relationship slowly built and it was fun watching her break out of her shell and Connor breaking down her carefully crafted walls. Perfection.
Once we start to learn about Evan's past and how he died, things start getting really intense. It was sad and just awful what happened and the repercussions Jane had to face after her initial digging would scare me to death! She's a lot stronger than she gives herself credit for.
Not only that; there are also some family secrets she discovers. I wish we could have divulged into more details about, since it just got brushed on at the end. Hopefully, book two will have some answers to my questions! And the ending gave me chills. SO good.
Overall- Great read! Intense, sweet and well written. I can't wait to get my hands on book 2!
