Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West

This is the book that started it all! The basis for the smash hit Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, Gregory Maguire's breathtaking New York Times bestseller Wicked views the land of Oz, its inhabitants, its Wizard, and the Emerald City, through a darker and greener (not rosier) lens. Brilliantly inventive, Wicked offers us a radical new evaluation of one of the most feared and hated characters in all of literature: the much maligned Wicked Witch of the West who, as Maguire tells us, wasn't nearly as Wicked as we imagined.

I thought the book was excellent about 2/3 of the way through, and then it fizzled towards the end, but over all, I enjoyed reading it anyway. I felt like some things were NOT wrapped up at the end of the book or things weren't crystal clear. So maybe I need to read more of the series...
Honestly, it's hard to be crazy about the ending when you already know how the main character meets her doom at the hands of the rather cruel Dorothy! HA! But what was fascinating is how the author got her there...

I absolutely, positively fell completely IN LOVE with The Wicked Years series! Buuuut I must admit - I definitely have a very special place in my heart reserved for the 1st Volume! 😍
Ugh - I really wanted to like this book but the verbiage and plot were extremely difficult to get through - to the point that I had to re-read each paragraph more than once. It took entirely too long to read and it just didn't do anything for me.
