A cracking mystery book with well written characters that stayed with me long after finishing it and a twist that i didn't see coming .

This book has staying power with the American classics like East of Eden and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. This book was so much more than I expected. It’s the kind of book that will knock you off your feet and make you feel all your feelings just when you least expect it. Another’s review for this book said, “What you can expect when you pick this book up is a novel full of such deep emotion and pain that it seeps from every page.”

I’ll be reading this book again, except next time will be slower. This book needs to be savored.

I felt this book took me forever to read. It was easy to put down and pick back up again, recapturing the story easily. It was nicely tied up at the end. To me, it was just okay.

We Begin at the End by Chis Walker What an interesting tittle. It really captures this Novel. What a life to live. This book was filled with interesting character. It had a mystery feel with a touch of thriller and who dun it thrown in. We have Vincent King imprisoned for killing his girlfriends sister, His childhood best friend, now Chief of Police, Walker or Walk stays true to their friendship and picks him up from prison to drive him back to the small coastal town they grew up in. Star Radley, Vincent's then-girlfriend still lives in town with her two children. Thirteen-year-old Duchess and her little brother, Robin. It is such a sad and messy house hold where Duchess does most of the care-taking of her family. Dutches showed the strength and fragility of the human spirt and my heart cried and sang with her. Mother Star tries to overdose on pills, with that action we feel how tortured her story must be, it adds a question mark to the story. She loves her children and it takes us till we read the end of the book to understand the whole tragedy. The first part of the book was really tough going reading the depressive life these friends had had for the last 30. I did not find it as compelling as the last two thirds of the book much more interesting, this is why BB is so worth while, I am committed to reading the whole book as I know the person that put it forward did so for a good reason. Did anyone else feel that? I was wanting to read the first third of the book again before the review date but things got a bit hectic with my Husband pulling his back out. I do think this book took a bit more concentration than I possibly gave it in the first section. Walker is the most reliable adult in the children's lives and Duchess does depend on him. He gave me hope. So you have these friends where one goes to jail one is a drug addict and another a policeman who tries hard to keep their friendship alive. I thought Walker was a very interesting character and with him and the Warden of the Jail we see the compassion for Vincent. The book is not very hopeful for these friends and there is a lot of suffering surrounding that links them. There isn’t much sentiment to pad the harsh reality in this book for the reader. The book is powerful in its sparseness. Each character had depth and interest but nothing extra to help the reader understand more. Excellent writing. Duchess, is a character so well drawn that I could practically see her. I wish I could say that I enjoyed this book—but again it was just too bleak, Does anyone ever enjoy books like this? It's stark, greyness affected me. It is moody and atmospheric and the writer is very skilful in conveying the stark darkness of a lost youth. It was really a very interesting Novel and well worth the read.
