I really liked it! I liked the mystery of finding out secrets in your family, my only real issue was the ending and the plot twist. To me, it kinda felt like it came out of nowhere and I really didn’t like the betrayal because that also came out of nowhere. I love surprise plot twist but this was too surprising in my opinion, there was nothing alluding to it at all . I also didn’t really like the ending because a dead relative(s) came back to life and I felt like the whole build up to her finding out about her blood family’s murders went down the drain with that. Overall though, I love love loved the mystery of it all, learning about the Poison garden and the Abystrus Heart (I think that’s what it’s called lol) and the sprinkle of Greek mythology was a plus because I love that! Would totally recommend this book!

There aren’t enough words for how captivatingly magically powerful this book is! As a young black girl (I’m non binary now, but still identify my younger self as a girl), I could never imagine reading something like this ever! All the magic and nature and myths were reserved for white people in all the books I read. To have a book where there are so many black characters, most being female, I’m astounded and grateful and in awe. There are black female heroines and villains, we are both good and evil when in most stories were either the perfect model black person or the tragic villain - a single story, single dimensional. But here, we exist in multitudes like we do in real life. Only we aren’t the only ones to see it now! I clung to every word and look forward to the next part of the adventure.
