This felt like the worst fever dream I ever had, but it kept me reading wanting to find out where it was gonna go, so I guess 2 stars for that?
I opted for the audiobook version of this and I must say… I think it’s the way to go.
I went into this pretty much ignorant to the story. I only knew it was spooky/horror related with a lot of body horror so I thought I’d give it a shot.
I’m glad I knew next to nothing about it AND opted for the audiobook (I feel it built up the suspense of not know what’s coming and prevented me from being able to skim ahead)
The story and relationship was very intense from the beginning and covered in red flags so I was anxious pretty much instantly for where this was headed but I had no idea what to expect. The first mention of the apple peeler was so inane that I remember thinking “this is boring! What even is happening??”
I do wish the ending wasn’t SO abrupt. I even had to backtrack a bit because I was sure I’d missed something. Though when I played it back and the final lines played, I audibly gasped as the pieces clicked into place.
It wasn’t a perfect book by any means, I wish it was longer, etc. but I highly recommend if weird and gross is your thing.
