Quite possibly my favorite book, loved the story line & trying to piece it together as it unfolds, switching from present day to the past. Love a historical fiction novel & this one is fantastic.
There are probably a million true versions of this story from this and other wars. This one, a story of love and bravery and sacrifice and human decency, is beautifully told.
The book time shifts between Poland during WWII and present day USA. The two main characters are Polish Alina and American Alice. The one thing that was distracting from the theme of the book was Alice's autistic son. I would have liked the book better without that addition. I did not know much about the occupation of Poland by Germany during WWII and it was quite sad to see what happened. Once again I enjoyed the writing style of Kelly Rimmer.
