Fabulous series which I read aloud to my son when he was in second grade. It was the beginning of our love for fantasy books.
I was lucky, I didn't realize it was allegory until years later. And I still check the back of all wardrobes, just in case. NOTE: These should be read in the original order, not the new-style chronological order, that's just silly.
Despite my tendency to avoid works by C.S.Lewis, this is a delightful book. I have enjoyed reading it myself as a child, studying it with my Year 4 class when I was a teacher in the U.K., and now reading it with my own children. I have now read this twice with my daughter, once when she was six and we just enjoyed it for the story, and now again when she is eleven. This time around provoked some deeper discussions: recalling our previous knowledge of Narnia from reading The Magician's Nephew; the religious imagery and links to Christianity, C.S.Lewis' friendship with JRR Tolkien; Greek and Roman mythology. We also just enjoyed the story, of course! This is certainly a "staple" book to add to your bedtime reading list.
Short. Easy. Does what it sets out to do. It's a good story and fun to read. None of the symbolism is very hidden, but there's a reason so many stories have taken inspiration from C.S. Lewis. It's a classic "journey to another world" story, which are always fun and one of the benefits to being so short is that the story doesn't have any unnecessary filler anywhere. Definitely recommend
