Don't miss the five-part HBO Max docuseries Brené Brown: Atlas of the Heart!

For over a decade, Brené Brown has found a special place in our hearts as a gifted mapmaker and a fellow traveler. She is both a social scientist and a kitchen-table friend whom you can always count on to tell the truth, make you laugh, and, on occasion, cry with you. And what's now become a movement all started with The Gifts of Imperfection, which has sold more than two million copies in thirty-five different languages across the globe.

What transforms this book from words on a page to effective daily practices are the ten guideposts to wholehearted living. The guideposts not only help us understand the practices that will allow us to change our lives and families, they also walk us through the unattainable and sabotaging expectations that get in the way.

Brené writes, "This book is an invitation to join a wholehearted revolution. A small, quiet, grassroots movement that starts with each of us saying, 'My story matters because I matter.' Revolution might sound a little dramatic, but in this world, choosing authenticity and worthiness is an absolute act of resistance."

I really enjoyed this book by Brene Brown! It was the first book of hers that I read. After seeing her TED talk, I was hooked and ran to the bookstore. This book has countless tabs and it's FULL of highlights because there are so many amazing take-aways. I really enjoyed her chapters on authenticity, and the power of belonging. They really made me think about my life experience so far and how i've struggled to feel like my authenticity wasn't appreciated (especially when I was younger) leading me to feel like I didn't belong. This book gave me permission to be authentic anyway, and to "let go of what people think", because true belonging doesn't require us to change who we are. She's taught me that I will truly belong wherever I feel most myself. Not only do I love the information she shares on living wholeheartedly, but I really enjoy her personal examples. It ties it all together!

Wow, this is a really good examination of how we get caught up in perfectionism, when of course we're all so imperfect!

I’ve never really read a “self-help” book, but after watching fellow UT alum’s Ted Talk in my management class, I had always been keen to learn more about her work. Needless to say, this was a wonderful book! Within the first few pages or so I could already feel my heart sing with the feeling that THIS was what I had been looking for. A great book to arm oneself with as we can all afford to be more gracious with ourselves and live out our lives in a way fulfilling to us. I think the most important lesson I took away from this book is that everything in life is a practice — bring more mindful, being more compassionate, being more vulnerable, etc. I look forward to rereading this and going over my notes to continually develop myself into a Wholehearted person!
