Except Isabelle isn't the beautiful girl who lost the glass slipper and captured the prince's heart. She's the ugly stepsister who cut off her toes to fit into Cinderella's shoe . . . which is now filling with blood.Isabelle tried to fit in. She cut away pieces of herself in order to become pretty. Sweet. More like Cinderella. But that only made her mean, jealous, and hollow. Now she has a chance to alter her destiny and prove what ugly stepsisters have always known: it takes more than heartache to break a girl.Evoking the darker, original version of the Cinderella story, Stepsister shows us that ugly is in the eye of the beholder, and uses Jennifer Donnelly's trademark wit and wisdom to send an overlooked character on a journey toward empowerment, redemption . . . and a new definition of beauty.

I never had goosebumps from reading a book!
I came across this book having low expectations, Expecting it to be an entertaining
corny and cheesy story , I mean c'mon its cinderella's stepsister story, What else would I expect?
I dont think I'll ever find a book that will surpass this!
The character development was beyond amazing, All the characters had their own personalities!
past and traits/hobbies, not some dull, empty shallow side characters, The emotions that I felt while reading this book, I cannot describe it, The symbolism behind finding the pieces of her heart, it was beautifully paced, no typical "main character makes a big mistake and it helps with the progression of the story to finally fix her mistakes", this was so beautifully written! Very, Very beautiful in a poetic way. The way it ended, everything about it is just perfect, I truly recommend it.

I like the twist on the Cinderella story. I liked the two plot lines: Isabel's story and Fate vs. Chance. I did not understand the plot line that included the barron and troupe. Isabel's story was good full of magic, adventure, and self discovery. I like the subplot about gender roles. Isabel's story had a good ending.
