Solito: A Memoir

A memoir as gripping as it is moving, Solito provides an immediate and intimate account not only of a treacherous and near-impossible journey, but also of the miraculous kindness and love delivered at the most unexpected moments. Solito is Javier Zamora’s story, but it’s also the story of millions of others who had no choice but to leave home.

Very interesting. A young boys immigration trip to join his parents in the United States. We don’t know.
The author did a wonderful job recounting his story of crossing from El Salvador to the US as a 9 year old. This memoir brought the innocence of excitement, fear and bravery he faced trying to trust and endure the voyage. The story had moment where you held your breathe and wished for his strength as he was forced to grow up and find his confidence.
Very well written and flows well. The story is hard to watch unfold at times, but eye opening and a very worthy read.
I loved this book so much. I laughed and cried. I 100% recommend this book, especially if you are in the field of education.
What an incredible story. The playful monologue of Javier felt true to form for a 9-year-old, and sometimes belied the horror of the reality that was, and continues to be, the reality for so many people of all ages seeking to cross borders. I'm not personally drawn to memoirs or nonfiction much, but Zamora's narrative style was so beautiful, it drew me briskly through the torturous tedium of Javier's unending bus rides and blistering desert days.
