The Darkling's whole character as a villain was pretty confusing and underdeveloped which is why this isn't a 5 star book. He unfortunately didn't have much appeal to me as a villain, and the ending tried to make him more nuanced and not a 100% bad guy and utterly failed in execution. That being said, I really enjoyed Alina's rag-tag team and I think she got the ending she deserved. After very strong book two, this was a decent way to end things.
2.5
I don't think I've ever hated and loved a book series as much as Shadow and Bone. There were many parts of the series that were really boring. And the characters were far from perfect. Regardless, this series broke me so horribly. Anyway, I'm beyond excited to watch the show. Now on to Six of crows!

ok this book was literally a rollercoaster! I loved all of the twists and just the plot overall. I enjoyed reading the bickering between some of the characters, especially from my favorite character (Mal). I’m sad that I’m done with the trilogy but I’m glad I decided to step out of my comfort zone for sure.
I bummed this up a star. I still feel the ending was too quick and tied up in a nice little bow. I wanted more. I read this as a buddy this time around and I think that's why I enjoyed it more this time around.
