Romancing the Duke: Castles Ever After (Castles Ever After, 1)

As the daughter of a famed author, Isolde Ophelia Goodnight grew up on tales of brave knights and fair maidens. She never doubted romance would be in her future, too. The storybooks offered endless possibilities.

And as she grew older, Izzy crossed them off. One by one by one.

  • Ugly duckling turned swan?
  • Abducted by handsome highwayman?
  • Rescued from drudgery by charming prince?

No, no, and . . . Heh.

Now Izzy's given up yearning for romance. She'll settle for a roof over her head. What fairy tales are left over for an impoverished twenty-six year-old woman who's never even been kissed?

This one.

Actually, no, there are layers upon layers upon layers of clothing that would take far too long to remove. Let’s try this again.

The way I type it makes it sound uncomfortable. The way Tessa Dare writes it makes it hotter than a turkey roasting at 350°.

This was my first real dive into Historical Romance. And by Historical Romance I mean any of these books with scantily clad couples in passionate embraces on the covers that I can find for $.50 at the thrift shop. It had good reviews by reviewers I admire, so I thought what the heck and went for it.

And I actually liked it.

I've only read the word nipple more frequently in a breastfeeding book, but somehow I was able to see past this because this book was just so damn adorable. It was funny. It held my interest (and by held I mean I devoured it in two sittings). It had a brave (unless in the dark), smart, sweet heroine and a blind, moody, sexy, damaged, just-waiting-for-someone-like-the-heroine-to-thaw-his-frozen-heart man. It had loyal side characters that I loved just much.

While I won't be confining myself to a room with nothing but Historical Romance for the rest of my days, Tessa Dare has certainly made her way into my reading rotation.
