Pineapple Street: A GMA Book Club Pick (A Novel)

A deliciously funny, sharply observed debut of family, love, and class, this zeitgeisty novel follows three women in one wealthy Brooklyn clan

Darley, the eldest daughter in the well-connected old money Stockton family, followed her heart, trading her job and her inheritance for motherhood but giving up far too much in the process; Sasha, a middle-class New England girl, has married into the Brooklyn Heights family, and finds herself cast as the arriviste outsider; and Georgiana, the baby of the family, has fallen in love with someone she can’t have, and must decide what kind of person she wants to be.

Rife with the indulgent pleasures of life among New York’s one-percenters, Pineapple Street is a smart, escapist novel that sparkles with wit. Full of recognizable, loveable—if fallible—characters, it’s about the peculiar unknowability of someone else’s family, the miles between the haves and have-nots, and the insanity of first love—all wrapped in a story that is a sheer delight.

Funny dialogue at times. A peek from the outside into a rarefied world. People, as selfish and standoffish as they were, began to grow on me as the story developed. But in many instances, felt their interior world was unrepeatable / hard to rally or feel sorry for any of them. I do like how the family seemed to grow more self-aware and conscientious at the conclusion.

Clever look at wealthy family with a narrow world view and experience. The struggle of keeping up with their own expectations done with wit and sorrow. A fast read.

My initial reactions as I read this book was that it is nothing like the suggested reviews on the cover, and then I saw that the author is in the publishing/editor world and I was like "There we go". They are definitely misleading and describe nothing of what the book truly is which is too bad because the book itself was not bad. It's a beach read where the chapters are a tad long but still a good beach read! You follow each chapter dedicated to a female character and their perspective as they try to navigate their feelings and current life in a privileged setting. It's a light read on elite white 1% trying to grasp reality of their advantages and standings in the world. You don't walk away from this book feeling any growth but just a nice read to turn your mind off.

Life of the wealthy in NYC too unrelatable.
