Pearl

Pearl is a unique read about a telepathic pig that uses its powers to enact revenge. It sounds utterly ridiculous but Malerman does an impressive job of creating and describing Pearl as this menacing monster with no remorse. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a horror book this weird and I really enjoyed it. Honestly I was stuck between 3 or 4 stars for this one because while the writing is great, and the story was interesting, I wasn’t compelled to pick the book up very often. The characters are ok, but I never found myself attached to any of them. This is definitely a horror story, it touches on the horrors of farming, and how those horror Pearl witnessed as a piglet laid a hand in creating the monster he is. If you’re a fan of horror that’s weird or like Josh Malerman’s work, this one I would suggest for a fun
