One Day in December: A Novel

Two people. Ten chances. One unforgettable love story.
Laurie is pretty sure love at first sight doesn’t exist anywhere but the movies. But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there’s a moment of pure magic . . . and then her bus drives away.
Certain they’re fated to find each other again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus stop and cafe in London for him. But she doesn’t find him, not when it matters anyway. Instead they “reunite” at a Christmas party, when her best friend, Sarah, giddily introduces her new boyfriend to Laurie. It’s Jack, the man from the bus. It would be.
What follows for Laurie, Sarah, and Jack is ten years of friendship, heartbreak, missed opportunities, roads not taken, and destinies reconsidered. One Day in December is a joyous, heartwarming, and immensely moving love story to escape into and a reminder that fate takes inexplicable turns along the route to happiness.

This was a total whim download. I kept seeing it around and without knowing exactly what it was about, decided to request it from the publisher. And I’m so glad I did!
This is a story told about first love. Friendship. Life; and spans over the course of 10 years. Which, at first may seem kind of odd and you may think, “how much can I really connect to a story that spans so long!?” But, it works really, really well. Quite honestly, it kind of needed to be spanned over some time; because hell, what happens when you DO fall in love with your best friends boyfriend?
While the story seems like one full of drama, it isn’t in the slightest. We follow Lou & Jack through those years during their ups and downs, missed chances and how they made the best out of their situation.
I will say, this is one of those books that I think I love more because of the audio. The narrators were FANTASTIC as Lou & Jack. Towards the end, I was gripping my phone (while listening) since the build-up just about KILLED ME at the end.
If you’re looking for a quick, addictive read, I highly recommend this!
