On the Fence

She's a tomboy. He's the boy next door.

With three older brothers, Charlotte Reynolds, aka Charlie, has always been more comfortable calling the shots on a basketball court than flirting with the opposite sex. So when her police officer dad demands she get a summer job to pay for the latest in a long line of speeding tickets, she's more than a little surprised to find herself working at a chichi boutique and going out with a boy who has never seen her tear it up in a pickup game. Charlie seeks late-night refuge in her backyard, talking out her problems with her neighbor and honorary fourth brother, Braden, sitting back-to-back against the fence that separates them. Braden may know her better than anyone. But there's a secret Charlie's keeping that even he hasn't figured out--she's fallen for him. Hard. She knows what it means to go for the win, but if spilling her secret means losing him for good, the stakes just got too high.

On the Fence is a sweet and satisfying read about finding yourself and finding love where you least expect it.

Being a huge Kasie West fan that I am, you would think I wouldn't even hesitate to pick up On the Fence and dive right in. And at first, that was true. After a few friends were giddy about it and in love with it, the hype monster started to rear it's head and I started to get nervous. Not only that, this book screams fluffy and I have not been in the mood for fluff. I almost wrote it off completely.

I am so glad I didn't.

I shouldn't be so surprised, since like I said, I love Kasie West. Her books are all easy to read and they are fun. I knew overall, I would enjoy On the Fence, but I wasn't prepared for how much.

Charlie was such a fun character. I really felt for her, and the things that she was going through and had to figure out. She is really down to earth, fun and witty, and I loved watched her grow and find herself throughout the novel. Being the only girl in her family, and not having any guidance when it came to "girl things," I thought she did pretty well for herself.

I thought it was hilarious and ironic she got a job in the location she did. Which just goes to show more about her character, that she was up for the challenge and didn't shoot everything down right away.

I adored her brothers and the tight relationship they all had. They were over protective; but there is more to it than what meets the eye. Although I am not an only child, I am the youngest and with the age difference between all of us, I always get a kick (and yes, envious) when books have such a loving, tight relationship.

On another note, there is Braden. Him and Charlie have been best friends since they were kids, but their relationship starts to change when they have their late night chats at the fence. It was obvious to me that they had ALWAYS loved each other, but it never came out before then. It was easier for Charlie to open up to Braden this way. Their game of who knows who best was so much fun too!

I loved it! So adorable. On the Fence is a fun quick read, with strong family dynamics, a cute romance and fun, likable characters. I now know better than to question ANY Kasie West book!

Another fantastic YA Contemporary by the lovely Kasie West. I struggled with Charlie in the beginning, she was pretty unlikeable, but by the ending I understood her character so much more. I enjoyed her development throughout the story and it was fun reading her banter with Braydon. If you like her other books than you'll enjoy this one too!
