Kill the Queen (A Crown of Shards Novel, 1)

The story is as advertised and better, I'm so excited for the series to continue. It gives a glimpse at how deep characters can be, yet still keeps the very human aspect of putting on your mask hiding behind cardboard cutouts of expectations. This is truly a great book, and I look forward to how much better he writing could get when the author plays with this world more.

I do not normally actually write reviews - I just do the "stars" selection. I have been a fan of Jennifer Estep's series' (all except for the Bigtime series), but her new Crown of Shards series is an absolutely outstanding start to a new world and new opportunities for story telling! The main character is that delightful mix of strength and weakness, and every opportunity I had to read the tale was taken. Due to my schedule, I am not able to read any book in one sitting, but actually finishing a book in 4 days, for me, is the equivalent to other people being able to read it in one sitting. To the point where I laid in bed an extra hour this morning just to finish it, which I never do. This is an excellent addition to the oeuvre of an author I already adore!
