Dinosaurs are cool and this book is too
I loved this book as a kid. Crichton made the idea of bringing dinosaurs back to life so magical and fun, though he made sure to make you think it was also highly unadvisable.
I'm not a fan of sci-fi, so I was surprised I didn't hate this. It rattles along at a fast pace, and was an easy read. I found the descriptions of the dinosaurs really vivid and found it easy to see the island in my mind (I've never seen the film). There are so many characters that I found it hard to differentiate them, but I suspect the characters are secondary here - it's the dinosaurs who are the stars of the show, and Crichton rightly keeps them front and centre throughout.
At it's best, it's fast paced and exciting - plus dinosaurs!
At it's worst, it's dialogue that reads like it was spat out by a decade old AI.
It's still a freaking rad book though and I'll gladly devour it wearing my rose-tinted glasses.
Literally my all time favorite book! Will never get old. I honestly believe it is a horror book. It’s just so suspenseful and creepy.
