Jane Eyre (Wordsworth Classics)

Jane Eyre is a wildly emotional romance with a lonely heroine and a tormented Byronic hero, pathetic orphans, dark secrets, and a madwoman in the attic. When it was
published in 1847, it was a great popular success. The power of the writing, the masterly
handling of the narrative, and the boldly realistic style were much admired. But many found it difficult to believe that Currer Bell, the pseudonymous author, was Charlotte Brontë , a young woman from a bleak Yorkshire parsonage.

I forgot how long this book was I really feel like the next 150 pages after Jane ran from thornfield could of been cut down. I also feel that this book more than some other classics I’ve read recently is dated in a way that gives the opposite effect of what the writer probably intended for example when Rivers leaves to preach to the Indian Heathens and subsequently dies I just said good riddens like fuck him, also all of Janes comments about getting Adele to stop acting so French through a good English education don’t really hit. I understand this as a product of its time. I wish the book was more spooky and less religious and honestly don’t get why mr. Rochester is so dramatic like why did he invite a bunch of ppl he didn’t even like into his house and flirt with a woman he couldn’t stand just to get Jane to admit she liked him?? Or why did he literally dress up as a Romani woman and pretend to tell their fortunes
