I actually cried after finishing this book.
It was so incredibly cathartic seeing someone else go through such intense psychosis and come out of it alright.
The viewpoints this book brings are incredibly important. From a mother, a Korean woman, a Korean mother, a psychotic woman, a survivor of abuse, and on and on and on.
Read this if you can.
I thought this book was really moving and well told. Structurally, it reminded me heaps of In The Dream House which is one of my favourite books.
It rang very true to my experiences with psychosis, delusions and being institutionalised.
Enjoyed the start, enjoyed the end - felt the middle was overlong. Some minor points irritated me because they were never resolved/explained. Felt more could have been done with the story - perhaps by giving us James' perspective, or by giving more information on post-partum psychosis. Overall, an interesting read but not one I'd feel the need to revisit - to be fair though, I've never been pregnant or borne a child, so I suspect I'm not really the target audience.
