I wouldn't give it two stars as this reviewer did but I pretty much agree.

The main thing I remember about this book is that Sawyer introduces truly alien aliens then as he usually does makes them pretty much human. Good concept: the aliens believe that because their god is Omniscient and omnipotent , anything they do must be OK because otherwise wouldn't god have stopped them? I like the reasoning but as a matter of practicality how can a society function like that? That reasoning should lead to atheism.

The other thing I remember is that one of the aliens cut off someone's legs (human) because they didn't understand human anatomy and meant it to only be incapacitating not lethal. That was a defense i guess.
