Howl's Moving Castle

This entrancing classic fantasy novel is filled with surprises at every turn. An international bestseller, this much-loved book is the source for the Academy Award nominee for Best Animated Feature.

Sophie has the great misfortune of being the eldest of three daughters, destined to fail miserably should she ever leave home to seek her fate. But when she unwittingly attracts the ire of the Witch of the Waste, Sophie finds herself under a horrid spell that transforms her into an old lady. Her only chance at breaking it lies in the ever-moving castle in the hills: the Wizard Howl's castle.

To untangle the enchantment, Sophie must handle the heartless Howl, strike a bargain with a fire demon, and meet the Witch of the Waste head-on. Along the way, she discovers that there's far more to Howl--and herself--than first meets the eye.

In this giant jigsaw puzzle of a fantasy, people and things are never quite what they seem. Destinies are intertwined, identities exchanged, lovers confused. The Witch has placed a spell on Howl. Does the clue to breaking it lie in a famous poem? And what will happen to Sophie Hatter when she enters Howl's castle?

anyone who knows me, knows i love love love howl and sophie. Its been my favorite novie for so many years. That said, reading this was long overdue. This story provided some lovely context that was missing in the movie. I cannot wait to rewatch it now that I have more of the back story. Though the love story was an absolute slow burn in the novel, esp compared to the movie. It was worth it. I cannot wait to read the second one, will definitely be purchasing a physical copy, and want to read all the studio ghibli novels now

Brilliant!!! That book transported me in such a beautiful world of eccentricity and fantasy, I wanted to reread it as soon as I finished it. For fans of the Ghibli movie, do not worry: The book differs quite a lot from the movie, while keeping all of its wonder and fun.

4.5 I loved this is was very whimsical and funny and very different from the movie I thought I wouldn’t like it as much as the movie, and in someways I think the there are elements the film added that were nice but I really enjoyed the story and extra characters in the book, overall the plots were just too different to really compare. I thought the movie had more cute moments with howl and Sophie but the book was also very cute in the end
