For the Wolf (Volume 1) (The Wilderwood, 1)

AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER AND TIKTOK SENSATION! The first daughter is for the Throne.
The second daughter is for the Wolf. An instant NYT bestseller and word-of-mouth sensation, this dark, romantic debut fantasy weaves the unforgettable tale of a young woman who must be sacrificed to the legendary Wolf of the Wood to save her kingdom. But not all legends are true, and the Wolf isn't the only danger lurking in the Wilderwood. As the only Second Daughter born in centuries, Red has one purpose--to be sacrificed to the Wolf in the Wood in the hope he'll return the world's captured gods. Red is almost relieved to go. Plagued by a dangerous power she can't control, at least she knows that in the Wilderwood, she can't hurt those she loves. Again. But the legends lie. The Wolf is a man, not a monster. Her magic is a calling, not a curse. And if she doesn't learn how to use it, the monsters the gods have become will swallow the Wilderwood--and her world--whole. "If you ever wished Beauty and the Beast had more eldritch forest monsters and political machinations, this is the romance for you."―Alix E. Harrow, author of The Ten Thousand Doors of January "A brilliant dark fantasy debut!" --Jodi Picoult, NYT bestselling author

Red riding hood but the wolf is a broody dude and trees are essentially vampires trying to keep a barrier against the upside down
I really, really liked the plot, but the writing style sometimes threw me off a bit, especially at the beginning. All the surroundings are described in a lot of detail, which made me lose the overview a bit sometimes. You know about all of the characters through the eyes of Red (and a little bit of Neve), so you don't quite know what's happening beneath the surface. I'd have liked some POV from Eammon, known exactly how much everything going on was affecting him. The world building was good; it wasn't too complicated that you forget everything, but still felt like an entirely different world than our own. Overall I'd probably give the book 4.5 stars, rounded to 4, because I absolutely loved the plot but the writing style made it a bit harder for me to get into the story.
Wow. Hannah Whitten has become one of my new favorite authors. The storyline was so well written! I literally couldn't put this book down. There was never a dull moment in this book and I can't wait till the second book comes out! A must-read for fantasy and adventure readers!
The first thing that pulled my attention to the book was the aesthetic. The paperback has this beautiful cover art and these jagged pages that almost give a journal affect to it. Unfortunately, it was a bit slow for me which is why I couldn’t give it a 7-10 rating. The character development felt a bit vague and it didn’t give me the ability to really connect, which is my favorite thing to do during the reading process.
All in all I’m happy with the ending and will be reading the second book.
