As a huge A Good Girl's Guide to Murder fan, I was excited to read Five Survive! It was a very thrilling read, and I personally found the FMC Red Kenny relatable, which for me is nonnegotiable in a YA piece because I need a reason to root for the kids. The beginning was a little slow for me. It took a second for the thrill of the danger the friend group was in to surface, but after the first 60 pages I was quite hooked and kinda scared for them too :( Banter in YA pieces can sometimes feel cringe or annoying but the dialogue here was enjoyable, seamless, and very dramatic, helping to pick up the reading pace. I loved that in the same scenario I could feel mad at or annoyed by the MCs and in that same moment feel sad for them (Oliver 🙄) Finally, I think the ending was perfect. It was bittersweet under the circumstances, but still left a little space for optimism! I figured out one of the twists right at the start of the book but the other reveals were shocking, and everything was so interconnected it felt like when you think you've uncovered it all, you find another unbelievable piece to the puzzle.

Holly Jackson did it again. This book was somewhat terrifying. There were times that I was legitimately nervous and my heart was beating. It surprised me because it was much scarier than the “Good Girls Guide to Murder” series. I loved the concept. I loved the character story lines. I loved the suspense. I would definitely recommend this book to any murder mystery lovers. It was an easy read and a thrill.
