Enola Holmes: The Case of the Left-Handed Lady: An Enola Holmes Mystery

Enola Holmes is being hunted by the world's most famous detective--her own brother, Sherlock Holmes. But while she is on the run in the world's biggest, darkest, dirtiest city, she discovers a hidden cache of charcoal drawings and feels as if she is a soul mate to the girl who drew them. But that girl, Lady Cecily, has disappeared without a trace. Braving the midnight streets, Enola must unravel the clues to find this left-handed lady, but in order to save her, Enola risks revealing more than she should. Will she be able to keep her identity a secret and find Lady Cecily, or will the one thing she is trying to save--her freedom--be lost forever?

As one who somewhat favors first-person narratives, I liked seeing the perditorian's thought processes, from her own mind. Reading her words showed me that she is not a professional. She made mistakes. And that is comforting. Why? I don't get that feeling when I'm reading the original Sherlock Holmes adventures (of course it's not meant to send that kind of message). We always see the greatest consulting detective almost always at his best. But with Enola, I'm witnessing the development of her brain powers and it reminds me that we (Well most of us?) aren't born perfect, like how you might think S. Holmes was born (No harsh feelings; I love the old chap to heart).
Personally, I was taken back to my childhood, imaginary world, picturing adventures of being the independent individual I dreamt of, yet being the hidden heroine. Enola's character is a true motivational being (even for a cold person like myself). I never thought a fictional character would glow in my eyes as an inspiration again. Ms Nancy Springer did a superb job.
