I wanted to like this book more than I did. The early sections, detailing the different and concurrent branches of sapiens was interesting and very well done. These chapters gave me some new understanding about the early evolution of mankind. I found the shared parenting of hunter-gather societies an interesting insight.
However, later sections of the book did not really provide me with anything new. I am sure that there are many people for who the history of the development of industrialized agriculture and society was new, but it did not add to my understanding of "modern" history. The last two-thirds of the book felt like a condensed and abridged version of topics I was already well informed about.
Not a bad book by any means, but for me it was just meh.
