Educated: A Memoir

A #1 New York Times Bestseller, Educated is an unforgettable memoir about a young girl who, kept out of school, leaves her survivalist family and goes on to earn a PhD from Cambridge University. Educated is an account of the struggle for self-invention. It is a tale of fierce family loyalty, and of the grief that comes from severing one's closest ties. With the acute insight that distinguishes all great writers, Westover has crafted a universal coming-of-age story that gets to the heart of what an education is and what it offers: the perspective to see one's life through new eyes, and the will to change it.

The book club found it was well written memoir. All were glad she survived a destructive family situation. The presenter pulled up a couple interviews with Tara. They reflected more on her philosophy of education and life. All added to a great discussion.
This true story is heartbreaking. Get inspiring. The journey, this woman goes through nothing short of amazing one of the best books I’ve ever read.
Excellent story telling. Initially, I was hesitant to give this book a shot… I really didn’t have an interest in separatist, doomsday-prepping Mormons - wow was I wrong. I gave this book a shot due to the wide popularity. Incredible story about Tara’s trauma as a child and follows her journey of healing. Incredibly interesting, page-turning story. Highly recommend to anyone who likes to read about complex family relationships with some sprinkles of religion & feminism. One of my favorite books now for sure.
