Everyone said this was even better than The Hunger Games. Although I liked the fact there was a love story element to it, I still was not as entranced by the lead character Tris as I was by my girl Katniss. I almost didn't buy the next book in the series but found it more interesting.

This first book in the trilogy by Veronica Roth was a quick read for me. I found myself quickly wrapped up in the factions of this dystopian world the author created. I found I liked most of it even though I wasn't crazy about the main character.

***SPOILER ALERT***
I didn't find Tris very likeable at all - unlike Tobias/Four, Christina or Uriah. Tris's strength and resolve was more of a flaw than a gift. Her cold unfeeling lack of sympathy for Al was disappointing even though I think the author tried to show the almost bipolar nature of her character as she struggled to come to terms with how to respond.

Overall, it just seemed like Tris was alienating everyone around her and losing her humanity in her quest to prove herself. But in the end, she seemed to reign herself back in and ultimately show that she did still care about other people, and it was that combined strength of fearlessness with selflessness that made her such an asset. I'm curious to see if there is further character development in the next 2 books...
