Death on the Nile: A Hercule Poirot Mystery (Hercule Poirot Mysteries, 17)

A classic AC novel, I don't even need to say anymore.

Agatha Christie’s novel Death on the Nile was first published in 1938 in the United States. I read the edition, which was published in 2011. According to the “Author’s Note,” Christie wrote that she based the steamer on a steamer she took from Assam to Wadi Halfa on the Nile River in Egypt. I can see why Death on the Nile is one of Agatha Christie’s most famous mysteries. The murder mystery in Death on the Nile is very intricate, and the novel is set in an exotic location for British readers in the 1930s. I think the reader should remember that the book was written for British audiences in the 1930s. At the novel's beginning, Hercule Poirot is between mystery cases and going to take a trip in winter in Egypt. Poirot is interested in the Egyptian climate (Christie 14). Christie is a writer that a reader can easily imagine their work turned into a film. I feel like Death on the Nile is one of Christie's most film-friendly stories. The writing is fast-paced, and there is a lot of dialogue. When these factors could be combined with the background of the Nile River and Ancient Egyptian sites, I can see why filmmakers such as Kenneth Branagh, John Guillerman, Andy Wilson, and others are drawn to this novel. I enjoyed reading Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile.

The scenario of Egypt certainly lends a great background to this mystery.

I think this is a case of: it's not you, Ms. Christie, it's me. This book just did not vibe with me.
