I'm still mulling this one over, but did enjoy it...though my face had a *constant* look of confusion on it The Entire Book. However, it was so well written and interesting that it makes me want to pick up another of Valente's books, so I feel like that's a win!
It’s honestly hard to say what I think of this one. At first you get a Stepford Wives vibe but then things get so much weirder than that. This book made me so angry but not because it was bad, but because what happens is just so infuriating but in a way that you know it is intentional. The author is saying so much in such a short novella and it’s pretty fucked up.
I’ve been devouring audiobooks lately and this was another one I listened to and loved the narration. It’s also very short, about 2 hours and 30 minutes so it’s easy to finish in one sitting.
I don’t want to give anything away, because I really think this novella would be ruined by giving away too much. All I will say is that this reminded me a lot of Mother!, the film with Jennifer Lawrence. “I was made for him” “they’ll always be another” gross. The worst of humanity right here, for sure.
