A well-written story of a couple in extraordinarily challenging circumstances. Thought-provoking and stirring. I'm sure this story will stay with me for a long time.

I am not big into the way it was laid out and what it was based on. That's just my opinion due to me liking more of the YA romance books.

This was very good and I definitely recommend it. It just sort of missed being one of my favorites this year because it lacked a little something. While I really became invested in Roy and all of Roy's parents, Celeste and her entire family lacked the same kind of depth. Andre was a decent enough character but I just didn't feel his significant connection to Celeste. Maybe I just didn't believe enough in Celeste as a character to believe in her relationships generally.

A really beautiful book that unspools for you - can’t think of another word. It’s like peeling back layers of an onion, getting to know the characters, understanding their past and their hearts, their foibles and how they survive a situation so beyond their control - an innocent husband unjustly imprisoned for 12 years. Also how marriage, commitment, love and sacrifice intertwine and divide over that time. It’s beautiful and heavy. The most powerful part is that it feels real - this could be a very similar story for too many people living with bars between them. Tayari Jones has done a great job in fleshing out these untold tales. Recommended

I found this book to be really dull and I didn’t like celestial. She didn’t feel genuine
