An Abundance of Katherines

From the #1 bestselling author of Turtles All the Way Down and The Fault in Our Stars

Michael L. Printz Honor Book

New York Times Bestseller

When it comes to relationships, Colin Singleton's type is girls named Katherine. And when it comes to girls named Katherine, Colin is always getting dumped. Nineteen times, to be exact. On a road trip miles from home, this anagram-happy, washed-up child prodigy has ten thousand dollars in his pocket, a bloodthirsty feral hog on his trail, and an overweight, Judge Judy-loving best friend riding shotgun--but no Katherines. Colin is on a mission to prove The Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability, which he hopes will predict the future of any relationship, avenge Dumpees everywhere, and finally win him the girl. Love, friendship, and a dead Austro-Hungarian archduke add up to surprising and heart-changing conclusions in this ingeniously layered comic novel about reinventing oneself.

As with every one of John Green's novels, I enjoyed it very much. The characters were believable, with a certain tangibility to their selves and personalities, and Colin's world of friends and family was one I appreciated in this same way. (And there were many times I found myself laughing out loud from the sheer hilarity of their antics/dialogue!) Colin's "Eureka moment" by the closing reminded me of the thoughts I ponder as well, but typically am unable or put into words--which John did a wonderful job of. While this book is not my all-time favorite, it is my favorite of John's so far. :)

Pretty cute YA book, but not the most amazing use of my time.

Remember that John Green book that really stood out from all his other books?
Yeah, it definitely wasn't this one.

Smart main character who speaks unlike 99% of teenagers and has chick probs? CHECK.
Comic relief best friend? CHECK.
Road Trip? CHECK.
Slightly unobtainable diamond in the rough girl? CHECK

The problem with Colin (MC) himself was that he was a complete whine baby. The problem with Colin's so called "relationships" is that many of them were for about two days. The problem with the comic relief best friend was that he wasn't all that comedic. The problem with the road trip was that it was incredibly brief. The only problem I didn't have was the slightly unobtainable diamond in the rough girl. She was initially unobtainable because she had a boyfriend. But she didn't have that holier than thou attitude that many of Green's gals seem to have and was actually laid back in a way that didn't annoy me.

This read fast and required a minimal attention span. I'll probably forget it soon.

Took me so long to read! There’s no specific plot I feel and is just dragged out.
