I love it when book friends get so excited over a book, they push it until you almost break from the pressure to read it. A Promise of Fire, is one of those books for me. I honestly don't even know how this one got by me at all! It has YOU WILL LOVE ME written all over it!
One of my favorite things about starting a new series is learning about the world and magic. A Promise of Fire has such a unique world with Greek Gods, magic and DRAGONS. Granted, it's one that had some series gaps and one that leaves us room to learn from, but still. Amazing none the less.
What made me really, really love this book though were the characters. Cat is the type of character I love to read about. She is strong, fierce, and that mouth on her gives many a run for their money. She has insecurities and fears, just like anyone else, and while at times her actions to push people (aka, Griffin) away were tiring, I get it. Griffin, Kato, Flynn and Carver too, were such awesome characters. I am excited to see more of them in the next book!
Now, as far as the romance goes? I loved it! I thought Griffin came off rather strong at first, but it's just his personality, which takes some getting used to. Their attraction is obvious but Cat has some things to work out before allowing herself to accept it.
A couple of things though - Cat reminded me a lot of Kate (Kate Daniel's series). Now, this is probably why I loved her so much, but I also had this... since of déjà vu while reading. I also felt like the "mystery" behind her heritage was pretty obvious. AND Why did she get freaking injured so much?! This book isn't without its flaws, but it sure was a great start to a series and I look forward to the next one!
So, if you're looking for a new fantasy series to start, with a sassy heroine, sexy romance and yes, dragons, this A Promise of Fire will sure do the trick!

Debut author, Amanda Bouchet's A Promise of Fire is an enchanting tale set in a fascinating new world filled with emotionally and physically complex characters. As I opened the book and began reading, I quickly became absorbed into the story. Only emerging when I was forced to put the book down (adulting can be so inconvenient at times!).
I have always been fascinated by Greek mythology and I enjoyed how Ms. Bouchet entwined the myths and fantasy with a bold and daring plot. Loaded with brazen escapades, sizzling hot passion and romance, A Promise of Fire is a fast-paced book that you need to put on your TO READ list.
I loved following Cat and Griffin through their travels as they grew not only to know and trust one another, but also as they experienced the adventures and trials that life threw at them. A Promise of Fire: Kingmaker's Chronicles #1 has most definitely earned a spot on my keeper shelf, I can't wait to add a print copy.
***I received an ARC from the publisher for my honest opinion.***
