What a cute read! I don't normally read YA contemporary novels but all the good things I have heard about this book made me pick it up.

I actually really loved seeing the characters try to honor their Korean roots when their tie to those roots, their Mom, passed away when they were young. My favorite character in this book might be the dad! At first I thought I would hate him and that he wasn't trying hard enough, the book opens with all his daughters working to make his life easier and becoming little mothers to themselves/each other and I hate the trope that dad can't be enough for his daughters. But as we get to know him, we realize that he didn't ask the girls to pick up any slack, they did that on their own. He really does try his best and cares deeply about all of his daughters.

I didn't really like Margot, the older sister, in most of this book. She has always been "the responsible one" and it shakes the family when she decides to go to college in Scotland. I understood her need to have "the college experience" and be on her own and appreciated that (cause I would totally move to Scotland) but her attitude toward JeanMarie about the move was condescending and cold. Jean Marie is crying about how much she would miss her older sister and Margot is chastising her about making their dad's life easier?? She breaks up with her long time boyfriend 3 days before leaving because "my mom said don't go to college with a boyfriend." Which 1. seems like a weird reason to break up and 2. maybe give the boy some time/indication that something is wrong? Don't dump him 3 days before leaving the country with absolutely no prior warning. Sorry. I just have feelings about this character. I did enjoy the book but that was mostly cause Margot was in another country 85% of it.

The character I did really like was Peter K. He loves his family, he's kind, and he is flawed. I would love to know more about his history with Gwen and if its just the ties of first love that bind them or something more? And it was fun to see him flirting when Jean Marie had no idea what was going on or how to handle romance.

At the end of the day, its a cute, fluffy romance and I will be picking up the next book.

This was such a CUTE book.

Honestly, this is one of those books that I really enjoyed as an audio - but probably wouldn't had I read the book. The narrator really made this book.
